Description
A life size replica of an oil lamp from Israel. This style is classed as “Herodian”, dated 50BC – 50AD during the reign of Herod the Great.
The lamp is formed on a potters wheel and is a closed in form with a spout to support the wick. The spout is “knife paired” with the distinctive shape that is so classic to this lamp. The lamp would have been filled with olive oil, a little salt added to lesson the smoke and a wick back then was made usually from flax. This lamp could burn for about 2- 3 hours.
This is a replica made by potters in Hebron, whose families have been potters for many generations.
This lamp can be used and comes with a cotton wick. HC.
